NEW DELHI: Rajasthan Regals made Indian professional golf history by clinching the inaugural DP World PGTI’s 72 The League with a 12-3 victory over UP Prometheans in the final at Qutab Golf Course on Friday. The Regals, who entered the final as the second-placed team from the league stage, delivered a clinical performance to overturn their earlier defeat to the Prometheans. Jairaj Singh Sandhu set the tone by beating the previously unbeaten captain Shaurya Bhattacharya 4 and 3 in the singles, while Akshay Sharma followed up with a 2 and 1 win over Arjun Prasad. The decisive moment arrived in the foursomes contest, in which Aryaman Mohan and Yuvraj Singh edged Joshua Seale and Arjun Sharma one-up on the 18th hole. Mohan calmly rolled in the crucial putt that sealed the title and the Rs 1 cr prize purse for Regals.“It’s been an honour to lead this bunch of players. From the moment of the auction I knew we had depth, but more importantly the chemistry in the team has been fantastic,” said Regals captain Ajeetesh Sandhu after the win. “We couldn’t have asked for a better finish.”Mohan admitted the pressure of the winning putt was immense. “It was less than four feet, but I couldn’t feel my hands. I was a mess, but thankfully Yuvraj helped me through it,” he said.
